Adult Education Program at Kennedy-King College offers free classes for adults who did not finish elementary or high school or who need to learn English.

Adult Basic Education: ABE is defined as instruction to improve reading, writing and math skills for adults who read below the 9th grade level. ABE is divided into two components, Literacy and Pre-GED.

GED Preparation: GED Preparation is defined as instruction to improve reading, writing and math skills for adults who read at and above the 9th grade level.

English as a Second Language: ESL is defined as instruction for non-native adult speakers to learn English and improve their communication skills.

Registration: Five major registration periods each year. Call numbers above for exact days and times.

Length of Program: Depends on the student’s reading and math scores or ability to speak English effectively.

How to Enroll: Bring to registration proof of current address such as a driver’s license, Illinois I.D. card, utility bill or current or medical card. Have social security number. Be at least 18 years of age.  Be prepared to take reading and math placement examinations.
