CONFERENCES AND SEMINARS


The following Conferences and Seminars were developed by Kennedy-King College Department of Business and Industry Services (BIS) and supported by a host of partners:

“Become the Boss: Franchise Training Seminar”

BIS in partnership with the National Minority Franchising Initiative and a host of national franchisors and business organizations presented a one day seminar entitled

“Be The Boss, Buy A Franchise”. This seminar provided the education and training to encourage franchise ownership opportunities to potential minority entrepreneurs and aspiring franchisees.

CPS “Creative and Safe Classrooms”
BIS developed and implemented a one-day conference in August 2002 that tackled the challenges and offered innovative solutions for developing “Creative and Safe Classrooms”. Over 250 Chicago Public Schools Early Childhood Education teachers and administrators gathered at Kennedy-King College for the information-packed conference.  The conference was sponsored by Dominick’s Finer Foods and MetLife Financial Services

The “Creative and Safe Classrooms” conference satisfaction survey results indicate that participants were highly impressed with the expert content of the professional development workshops and information provided by the child development trainers.  The workshops covered areas including curriculum development, health hazard prevention, parent training, storytelling, pre-k computer use and financial management sessions.

CPS “Child Parent Center Parent Workshop Series”
BIS developed and implemented a six-day parent workshop series that consisted of workshops in the following areas: Effective Parenting Techniques, Money Management, Communication and Presentation Sills, Self Development, Healthy Living for Parent and Child and Computer Training.  Workshops were delivered at various Child Parent Centers.

“Business Maximization” sponsored by MetLife Financial Services
MetLife Financial Services sponsored a 2-hour seminar for business and community constituents of the 87th Street Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber which is comprised of viable small and mid-sized businesses learned from MetLife Financial Services financial experts about succession planning for their businesses.

“Roads to Success”
BIS welcomed 25 female students from Carver Military Academy to participate in a 3-hour seminar designed to inspire and prepare students for college and the workplace.  

“Access to Capital: Financial Resources For Business Growth”
As a part of the 2002 Minority Enterprise Development Week (MED Week) activities, the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) partnered with Kennedy-King College BIS to provide a high-powered workshop that gave business owners pointers on how to access funds to start and expand their businesses.  Expert venture capitalists, angel investors and bank loan officers were available to talk one-to-one with business attendees.  The exciting workshop concluded with five pre-selected companies presenting their business plan presentations to a panel of financial experts. 

“Business Solutions 2002”

BIS developed and implemented “Business Solutions 2002”, a two-day seminar series that focused on fundraising for nonprofits and introduction to Microsoft Office for small businesses.  Our partners included DePaul University’ Egan Urban Center and the Chicago Foundation For Women.
