Testing

All new Dawson trainees and former trainees without test scores on file are required to take placement tests in reading and math. The test results will determine at which entry level a trainee may begin his/her studies. Minimum test score requirements have been established for the different programs. Information on specific program requirements and testing schedule can be obtained from the admissions office. Students must check in at the Admission's counter. Test scores are valid for (1) year.

Tuesday 9:00 ate. & 12:30 p.m. (BNA) students only
Wednesday and Thursday • 9:00 am. & 12:30 pm.
Friday 9:00 a.m. (only)

Academic Advisement

Academic advisement is available through the counseling department. The counseling staff is responsible for helping each trainee with their educational development, career choices, and referring trainees to the Institute's specialized support services (Le, tutoring, and job placement).

Once the student completes the career development course (546) and meets the training program's testing score requirements, the trainee is referred to the program department for interviewing and course programming After course programming, the student completes the registration process at the Registrar's Office (counter).

Registration Services

Registration for all Dawson Technical Institute programs is open daily (Monday, Thursday, 8:30 a.m. 5:00 p.m.) throughout the year for the convenience of prospective trainees who which to enroll. Registration is held at the following campus:

Concurrent Enrollments

Concurrent enrollment within the district (at more than one of the City Colleges) or outside the District is permitted. If a trainee receives financial aid, the student must have written approval for concurrent enrollment outside the District from both Financial Aid offices. If the trainee is enrolled in another Chicago City College with college credit courses, the college, with the College credit courses, is the home campus.

Health Requirements

Trainees must comply with the requirements of the Department of health of the City of Chicago as a prerequisite for their admission or continuance as a trainee and must submit to a health examination when asked to do so by the college president or vice president and/or designee. Residency

Because Kennedy King College (Dawson Technical Institute) is a public supported institution, trainees who live in Chicago pay a lower tuition rate. Tuition and fees are charged per credit hour and varies depending upon student's residency status. Tuition rates and fees are subject to change by the District

Responsibilities for Registration

It is the responsibility of each trainee to become knowledgeable of the policies, procedures and requirements to satisfy the conditions of registration and criteria for enrollment in courses to complete program requirements. Each trainee must accurately record and provide proof of their residential status and demographic data at each registration. Failure to fulfill these responsibilities can cause additional fees and/or affect enrollment status. The Institute will provide a variety of services to help trainees satisfy their registration responsibilities.

Right to Organize

Trainees have a right to form or join any college organization or club provided that they submit to the Assistant Dean of Student Services (1) a statement of purpose for the organization; (2) a standard statement of nondiscrimination; and (3) a list of officers or organizers. Such organizations or clubs shall be permitted the use of Institute's facilities during normal operation hours when such use does not interfere with instructional or other activities in the Institute. Such organizations or clubs shall comply with the rules and regulations of the Institute.

Graduation Requirement

The graduation ceremonies are held once each year at the end of the Spring semester (May). Graduation application can be obtained from the program department or the Registrar's office Trainees should apply for graduation at the end of their training. To qualify for a certificate and to participate in the graduation, trainees must have maintained an over all grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or higher.
